SPRING
Buds appearing, wild birds sing
Hark we herald early spring
Winter woes are fast receding
Early flowers now most appealing
--------------------------------------
Daylight hours at last are stretching
Soon the lambs so very fetching
To watch the livestock procreate
And see the land regenerate
---------------------------------------
A joy indeed to watch unfold
Natures promise - new from old
Phoenix like this season gives
Re-birth of life the joy to live
----------------------------------------
It spreads this bounty far and wide
All around our countryside
Nought too big nought too small
This great season covers all
------------------------------------
Trees start making brand new coats
Plants preparing one and all
Their glorious dresses for the ball
Every one invited to participate
-------------------------------------
In summers wonderous splurge of colour
Each knows its own respective date
Human spirits now are lifted
Winters woes at last are shifted
---------------------------------------
Lift your heart and head up high
Glance up to that azure sky
Start in the garden - do your thing
Rejoice my friends and welcome Spring

WINTER SHEEP BY HARRY
In winter sheep are hard to keep
Depriving me of needed sleep
These mountain slopes get ever steep
As up I go with dragging feet
The dogs run on with strength to spare
Playing catch-up to a hare
Who bounds along beneath bird-song
Whilst wary stags remain anon
The tree line goes - we reach the snows
Numbing fingers - freezing toes
My pace it slows
One dog goes down - he knows
The flock are nearby on the Ben
Far above our wooded glen
Dogs go out to bring them round
Elusive sheep at last are found
With dusk approaching from the West
The dogs all do their level best
Herding sheep down from the Ben
To place them safe in lowland pen
As I descend this mountain path
I look in awe at natures wrath
The driving snow around us whips
One cannot make the slightest slip
Near 40 miles by sou sou west
The distant glow of Inverness
Once a pleasant Highland town
Now a city - going down
Where muggers,drunks and drugs prevail
To overcrowd the city jail
O give to me this mountain air
Far from our cities of despair !
