Hi, I'm korculablue and I've been writing poetry for many years. I became more interested whilst teaching ten year olds and found that with some encouragement both boys and girls often wrote original, refreshing, exciting and sometimes quite startling stuff.

When I became quite ill with M.E. or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as it is also called now, I was often bed bound and my poetry became more insular. On losing my husband in 2003 I found my poetry becoming almost exclusively about feelings. Feelings of grief, loss, sadness, loneliness.

I found "Poetry and Friends Group" by chance one day in June of this year. I can honestly say in the short time I've been part of this group I have found it to be unique in its warmth and affection shared so generously by each of its members and I have made some wonderful friends here. It's lovely to be able to read so many diverse styles and subjects when browsing through other members' poems. I have smiled, giggled, laughed out loud at the humorous ones. I have been touched to the point of tears by the honesty, the pain and depth of emotions in the deeply personal ones. I have been awe-struck by the beauty and quality of so many I have read and read over and over.

It's great to comment and share with other members and thrilling to read the generous support and approval when I get my own comments. Everybody's work is always respected and supported. There are lots of extras here to enjoy too: like the Monday evening quiz; the lottery; the opportunities to post jokes; favourite poems and stories; the chance to put forward our own poems and short stories for the monthly competitions; help with writing and so on. They all come together to make this Group a wonderful place to be.

For me personally, I have gained enormously from being here. This Group has given their love and support from my first day without limit; at a time when I was very low and lonely and I know I have "grown" and become happier because of it. My poetry has always been a solitary part of me in recent years, but now I can share my love of the written word with like-minded people who are now my friends too. I think a huge benefit for me is that I have been gently encouraged and inspired by other members with their supportive comments and by reading all their own excellent poetry, to begin to widen my horizons. I have tried humorous poetry and am now beginning to write about the things I see around me every day. As one of the gentlemen members mentioned, "Look for the small miracles happening around us". This is tremendously exciting for me as I never thought I could do it. The Group is continually expanding in the variety of topics being offered.

None of this could happen, however, without all the very hard work and commitment to the Group behind the scenes by Maggie in particular and the people who assist her. Without this vital component, the Group would not be the wonderful place it is.
