Two envelopes fell on to the mat this morning both from Forward Press telling me that two poems I sent in will be published in October, the first, My little brother,in an anthology called The Power of the Pen,and the second Identical twins in an anthology called Lyrical winds.
Has anyone else heared of Forward press and are they anything to do with vanity publication?
Am I right to be suspicious?

Thanks Maggie Hope sombody can shed some light on my thoughts,both poems were sent at the same time, but they are in different anthologys and they want £18.00 for each copy if I want one.

Hi Ken, I have had quite a few poems and a short story for children published with them and although not strictly what I would call a vanity press, you don't get paid for work in an anthology but they do make this clear. Also you don't have to buy the books for them to be published, just your permission, but of course most people do want to purchase and they rely on that I'm sure. They do give cash prizes to winners in their competitions, though I have never won anything yet! They did publish my poem " Remote Control" on their website a while back when it won poem of the month or something. I have never seen any of their poetry or story books in my local library or in any local book shop either! Hope this helps you to make up your mind.

Thanks Anne, I will probably buy the copies just to keep for my grandchildren,I have five of the little ankle biters at the moment, with one one the way, so I need to get publishing a few more! I would be interested to hear more about your childrens story if you have time.

I have heard of forward press they have been out for years, I did not knnow they were still around and they were a vanity press from what I recall.
