Background info on author of Dancing on the Edge Kay Forristal

Born and reared in Listowel Co Kerry in the nineteen fifties I was the
youngest in the family of ten children. This was a time of mass
emigration, frugal living, great faith, and, warm community spirit. My
story begins with a trip to the airport when my brother aged seventeen
left for America. Simple things from a happy family life, to picking
blackberries under the loving supervision of my father, to Christmas,
to the visiting Wren Boys on Saint Stephen’s Day, to giving ‘a man of
the roads’ sustenance on a winters night, is described in detail.

I embraced my new life at school with delight and anticipation but my
delight soon turned to fear as I became the victim of vindictive
treatment at the hands of my peers. By the time I was six I had changed
from a happy confident little girl who loved to sing and dance to a
timid, shy and fearful child.

The terror I suffered in school would haunt me until I decided to face my
demons and return to that school to reclaim my life, which I did after
a school reunion in 2004. In the act of reclamation I confronted my old
persecutor and forgave her, which set me free to heal after forty years
of suffering.


My story was featured in several magazines and national newspapers.

A film documentary was made by R.T.E and televised for the Would You Believe weekly series in 2005.

Being a great follower of Irish singer Daniel O Donnell, I got to know Co. Donegal very well.

Hugs - I dare say many bullies are simply dishing out the same as they have received, but for small children that is no comfort at all.
